What Is Calisthenics?

Calisthenics is the sport with performing at its heart.

Calisthenics offers a unique combination of dancing, singing, gymnastics and technical skills for girls, boys and women throughout Australia.  We are proudly Australian and we develop strong, confident performers through teamwork.

The word Calisthenics comes from the Greek words 'kallos' meaning beauty and 'thenos' which means strength. Indeed, the components of Calisthenics aim at achieving these physical attributes, but the sport also influences the emotional and social development of girls and boys through friendship, self confidence and teamwork.

Calisthenics involves a team of participants learning routines choreographed to music and presenting these routines on stage at competitions and concerts. Pupils learn between four and seven routines concurrently throughout the year. This is where the diversity of the sport is shown.

In addition to team items, participants can compete in solo and duo items.

Calisthenics can be categorised as both a sport and an art. As a sport it encourages physical development, coordination, self-discipline and team spirit. As an art it develops an appreciation of music and rhythm, the beauty of correct technique and the excitement of performing.

East Gippsland Calisthenics provides opportunities for Recreational participation, Competitions, Solos and Duos as well as the ability to complete Nationally Recognised skills exams.

Calisthenics truly is the sport with performing at its heart!
